All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church
4501 Walnut Street, Kansas City, Missouri (View Google Map)
Performance: Friday, April 17th, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Through voice, gesture, and song, Diane Wolkstein, internationally–renowned New York City storytettler and author, brings to life the 4,000 year old epic of Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of love, fertility, and the Morning Star. This riveting presentatio has been given on five continents and has performed to sold–out audiences at the Smithsonian, the American Museum of Natural History, and the British Museum in London. As Diane speaks and Geoffrey Gordon plays, we are drawn into another world and made part of that time and place.
Geoffrey Gordon, Broadway performer, composer, and recording artist, plays a variety of instruments to evoke the atmosphere of ancient times.
Workshop: Saturday, April 18th, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The story of Inanna's coming of age, maturation, and later descent into the underworld and powerful rebirth is as relevant today as it was in ancient Iraq. The story is an ideal entry point to working with many Jungian concepts. Join us for this interactive workshop with Diane Wolkstein, storyteller, mythologist, and author of twenty–three books including Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth. Utilizing the rich metaphors inherent in the myth, she will discuss the heroine's journey, the claiming of sexual power, the anima / animus, maturation, death, and rebirth. This workshop will include interactive storytelling training as well.
Friday performance admission: $25.00 ($20.00 for K.C. Friends of Jung Members)
Saturday workshop fee: $95.00 ($75.00 for K.C. Friends of Jung Members)

Sacred Stories Workshop
East Tennessee State University
Johnson City, Tennessee
Sunday through Thursday, June 7th to June 11th, 2009
This Institute will be an exploration of both content and technique in the telling of sacred tales from many traditions. We will encounter stories from Biblical, Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, Hasidic, tribal, and Sufi backgrounds. Class members will tell stories from their own birth and adopted traditions, and also one anothers'. We will consider the universal and culturally specific aspects of particular tales. What outward and inward facets of a story make it Christian rather than Taoist, Hasidic rather than Sufi? What are the teller's responsibilities towards the traditions reflected therein? We will experiment with different modes and styles of presenting sacred stories, and we will explore critical aspects of the storyteller's voice and persona. Voice, Movement, Song, Balance, and breath exercises will be daily offerings to ground participants in story.
Space will be limited for this Institute.
